Where to buy model cars for re-sale on ebay or collect yourself!
Ten years ago I was introduced to eBay and its little community of online collectors. Back then it was fun but prone to outages and if I recall correctly the listings fees were only a nickel! That’s right, .05 cents! Anyways, it was a few months later that I started to notice people buying and selling diecast model cars. Since I was a collector myself, I followed many of the listings and often wondered where the sellers (those selling new items, which back then were only a few) purchased their items? The handful of sellers would list and re-list the same model cars, trucks, fire trucks, over and over again. Of course I would never email to ask them, after all, if I were them I would never tell, so that option was out.
Eventually I did find out and for years I would keep it a secret because I didn’t want my competition to grow. I became a “member” of a small group of sellers who would on occasion run into each other at the “outlet” but never knew each others names, but we all knew that we were competing online in the world of eBay. How I was able to beat them out and take a larger share of the eBay sales in my category will be left for a later topic. So why give out the secret locations? The main reason is that I no longer sell in large quantities on eBay, so I don’t mind having locals get good deals on diecast model cars.
However, there are still many powersellers on eBay that rely solely on this information to get their supply of diecast model cars and other toy collectibles. So will I be ruining it for them? Not really, because there are only three states in the U.S. where these places exist and the only way of becoming a full time eBay seller by using these sources is if you live in the same area. Also, there are so many other aspects to becoming a successful eBay Powerseller and making a full time income from it, knowing the source is only about 10% of the work.
